Is Fear Of God All That’s Holding You There?

Fear of God is not foolish. But if “fear” is all you have you need to go on into fullness.

Kids are sweet but I find they are about 55% sweeter when they’re asleep.

When my rugbugs were little, sometimes I’d stand close to their bed and look at them by the moonlight as they slept. At times like that, you feel like you’re going to swell up and burst with love.

I’ve wondered if God sometimes watches us when we’re asleep. So many people think that the Lord is constantly mad at his people but personally I think He spends more time smiling at us.

We forget how much God loves us because we’re afraid of Him, I guess.

Don’t get me wrong. There is a fear of God that’s indispensable or you’ll be eternally stupid. “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” (Prov. 9:10, NIV).

Lots of people try to leave God out of life’s equation and they pontificate, thinking they sound intelligent. Those people need to do some trembling. Their deliberate ignorance could cost them forever.

There’s a distinct lack of the fear of God in our world today

Fear of God keeps the gate to the Kingdom. It shouts to those who pass by urging them to turn to the Lord. Fear is also the last barrier when someone turns his back on the Lord. “It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God,” she cries to these people. (Heb. 10:31, NKJV)

And this isn’t like the fear of those who don’t know God, a fear which paralyzes and tortures. No, it’s a fear which liberates.

“I waited patiently for the Lord; he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the Lord and put their trust in him.” (Ps. 40:1-3, NIV)

But, if all you know is the fear of God you’ll never enter into all that God has for you. Fearing God is the beginning of wisdom but I don’t think it’s the fullness of wisdom.
If fear is the watchman by the door, love fills the whole countryside. The more you know how much the Lord Jesus loves you, the more you’re going to be all He’s saved you to be.

“that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height— to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.” (Eph. 3:17-19, NKJV)

All God’s fullness belongs to the Christian who plunges in so that he can know the incomprehensible love of God.

My word check says that I’m at about 500 words for this article. I probably can’t convince you even with a hundred thousand words but why don’t you take a Bible and see what it says about God’s love? It can change your way of seeing and doing life.

If all you know is the fear of God, that’s not stupid but you’re still standing by the gate. Go on in. There are wonders to be discovered in this land of the fullness of God’s love.
